When a Door Closes in Your Face
It seems to be happening to a lot of people right now. Often when you least expect it. You’re walking along and then, suddenly, the door you thought you were supposed to go through slams shut. But Why? There must me some mistake! This can’t be right. The first inclination is often surprise, followed most rapidly by some type of emotional tantrum – anger, self-pity, grief or resentment. Next, the most common response is one or more of the following desires to quit, run, hide, blame, ignore or sedate. I get it. I have been there too – many times.
After the shock, tantrum and aftermath, what if you just breathed? What if you just trusted? What if you just sat with the possibility that something better is on the way. What if there was some reason, not yet seen in this moment, that this door had to close. Perhaps, it is timing, and the door will reopen. Perhaps you need to experience or learn something that will help you find the key to unlock the door. Perhaps, a much better door, with more of what you want and deserve is preparing to open.
I know its traumatic when you are startled by such a sudden course correction – whether that is a career, health, relationship, financial or other big life shift. I know that it often requires tremendous adjustment, surrender, conviction and courage to get back up, pick up the pieces, learn from any mistakes and move forward, but that is what opens the door to something better.
“This is Happening For You, Not To You”
I know it is hard to see now, and the rewards may not be realized for a while, but some day in the future this experience will be a blessing, a gift that changed your life for the better.
So trust that life is a hallway with many doors opening and closing. Don’t get stuck in the hallway of life just because a door slammed shut. Breathe, shake it off, get clear, listen to guidance, follow the clues and then begin searching for the golden key that opens the next doorway ushering in new possibilities beyond your wildest dreams.
